1995 BWP mare by Darco x Hedjaz

Sapphire

Purchased in 2003, Sapphire, daughter of the legendary Darco, was the first horse that Double H Farm bought for McLain Ward. As a young horse, many thought “Sara” was too heavy and old fashioned to be a successful, modern day show jumper. She proved everyone wrong by living out a career full of memorable wins on the biggest stages in our sport, beating some of the fastest combinations of the time. Sara and Mclain were winners at CSI5* GCT Wellington, CSIO5* Grand Prix of Rome, and CSIO5* $928,501, CSI4*-W Hampton Classic Grand Prix CN International Grand Prix at the Spruce Meadows Masters. Her incredible scope and willingness to please took her to the Olympic Games at just nine-years-old, helping the USA team win gold at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens and the 2008 Olympic Games in Hong Kong. Sapphire and McLain Ward had a legendary partnership and a record that few combinations will ever match. She lived out her retirement in New York before passing away in 2014.
